Volunteer Highlight: John Phelps
Hi, my name is Jon Phelps and I've been volunteering at B.R.A.I.N. for 5 years, 2 months and 1 day! When I arrived at B.R.A.I.N., I was surrounded by a room full of so many smiling faces. I had no idea what B.R.A.I.N. was, and 5 years later I'm still trying to put words to the feelings I have every time I'm with my B.R.A.I.N. family.
With the holiday season coming to an end, I'm reminded how much B.R.A.I.N. is my family. When a survivor or volunteer is absent for a period of time, they are missed by our family. But when they return, it is a holiday homecoming as they share their life with us once again. The feelings of the season such as warmth, celebration, and love are what we experience every single day at B.R.A.I.N.
The years go by, and the seasons always change, but one thing that remains is the abundance of love and support we all get from B.R.A.I.N! At F.B.I. on Tuesday nights, when a survivor gets up to share an accomplishment, every eye is attentive and every ear is listening, and you experience a level of respect and support that is hard to find anywhere else.
As I look back over the last 5 years, I could list all of the amazing things that have shaped my life because of B.R.A.I.N. But, that wouldn't be fair, as there is no way to put in writing, or even words, the feelings and the homecoming each week I experience every time I'm with my B.R.A.I.N. family.
So I challenge you, whoever is reading this, to get involved and have B.R.A.I.N. change your life too!
We are all survivors, and we need each other!
Happy New Year!
