 SPEAKER BIOS:
DR. JOHN MEDINA

Dr. John J. Medina is a developmental molecular biologist focused on the genes involved in human brain development and the genetics of psychiatric disorders. He has spent most of his professional life as a private research consultant, working primarily in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries on research, related to mental health. Medina holds an affiliate faculty appointment at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine, in its Department of Bioengineering. Medina was also the founding director of the Talaris Research Institute, a Seattle-based research center originally focused on how infants encode and process information at the cognitive, cellular, and molecular levels. He has also been appointed to the rank of affiliate scholar at the National Academy of Engineering, and his celebrated book, Brain Rules was not only a New York Times bestseller, it has also become the standard handbook of understanding and improving the brain, which in turn, improves our lives. It has been translated into over 20 languages and is used as a textbook in more than 15 universities across the country, and a recently revised edition was released in 2014, along with Brain Rules for Baby. He is also the author and on-camera presenter in The Great Courses series “Your Best Brain: the Science of Brain Improvement,” which featured 24 lectures describing in-depth the linkage between biology and behavior. The only thing that rivals John’s genius is his energy. He is a born speaker to whom people of all walks of life flock. With a light-hearted approach, and an infusion of great energy, Dr. John Medina offers us understanding, and the techniques we should know to relax, and reach our potential, both in our personal and professional lives.
 
ANDREW DOAN, M.D., PH.D. CDR MC USN

Dr. Andrew Doan is a recognized expert in digital media applications in clinical medicine and addictions related to problematic use. With a doctoral degree in neuroscience, his background in molecular neuroscience adds in depth knowledge into the areas of Internet Addiction, Video Game Addiction, and Technology Addiction. He spends 80% of his time in medical research as Head of Addictions & Resilience Research for the US Navy in the Department of Mental Health. Dr. Doan is author of Hooked on Games.
 
JOHN KELLEY

John A. Kelley, Jr., has been the Chairman and CEO of CereScan, a functional brain diagnostics company headquartered in Denver, Colorado since mid-2009. Prior to joining CereScan, Mr. Kelley served as the Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of McDATA Corporation and Executive Vice President of Networks at Qwest Communications International. He is a member of the board of directors of Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ) and Emulex Corporation. Mr. Kelley earned a BS in Business Management from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. He has served in the US Army (1970-1972) and also played varsity baseball at the University of Missouri, Columbia. CereScan just opened their 9th clinic and their 1st in California!
 
MARY KENNEDY, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Mary R.T. Kennedy, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is Professor of Communicative Sciences & Disorders at Chapman University, Orange, CA. Dr. Dr. Kennedy got her PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, and spent 16 years at the University of Minnesota before coming to Chapman University. She has many years of clinical and research experience with adults with acquired brain injury. She has 60+ publications and technical reports on topics related to communication disorders, executive dysfunction, metacognition, self-regulation, and evidence-based practice. She chaired the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders & Sciences, TBI practice guidelines committee and served on the Institute of Medicine/Dept of Defense committee that reviewed cognitive rehabilitation (2011). Dr. Kennedy currently conducts outcomes and intervention research on a coaching approach used to support college students with brain injury (www.neurocognitivelab.com) and authored the book, Coaching College Students with Executive Function Problems, published by Guilford Publishing.
 
DEE GAINES, Ph.D.

K. Drorit Gaines, Ph.D. received an academic excellence scholarship to UCLA and completed a BA degree in Business Economics. She earned her Ph.D. from Fielding Graduate University (FGU) in Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology and completed post-doctoral experience at the Veterans Affairs and UCLA. She conducts evaluations for male prisoners, military and sports concussions, individuals with dementia, and other. She currently serves as a forensic expert, a VA Principle Investigator, a UCLA vol. clinical faculty, and as FGU faculty. Dr. Gaines is the executive producer and host of the first live neuropsychology show broadcasting weekly on KABC 790AM. Dr. Gaines authored several publications and received awards from the American Psychological Association, Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, National Academy of Neuropsychology, and other. She serves as an expert reviewer, as the Secretary of the NAN Foundation, and as a trustee of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association
