Sue’s October 2014 Letter

The Fall season is in full swing here at B.R.A.I.N. The temperature is slowly dipping which helps us each Tuesday at FBI. We are already planning for next year to be able to purchase an air conditioning system. Debbie Edwards, caregiver for her son and husband, both who have suffered brain injuries, and owner of The Original Grind coffee house in Los Alamitos has graciously helped us obtain bags of fresh whole bean coffee that we can sell to our friends during the Holidays. We plan to put the profit of the coffee sales toward the much needed air conditioning system. Thank you, Debbie and FBI members helping us with this project.

I would like to extend a huge Thank You to all of our volunteers who work hard to make B.R.A.I.N. a place of acceptance and hope for the future. I feel very blessed to be among such inspiring and heroic individuals. One night at FBI I just sat back and observed the entire room that was buzzing with conversation and laughter. Individuals were engaged with one another over meaningful and important subjects. I watched the faces of the 90 people at FBI and it was encouraging to see the smiles and positive expressions. Whether you are someone who makes the coffee, buys the snacks, facilitates a support group, answers the phone, gives therapy or welcomes survivors and families into our group with your warm attitude, you are much appreciated. I never could have imagined that B.R.A.I.N., which started in my guest bedroom in 2008, would look like this with so much vibrancy and resources in 2014.

I must thank the many people who have generously opened their hearts and their wallets to give life to this dream. These people are donors who are behind the scenes and who are rarely spotted at any B.R.A.I.N. gathering. They are the pioneers who chose to believe in this vision of helping a community of brain injury survivors gain improvement and respect. Thank you for consistently giving and keeping an open sign on our door.

With much gratitude,

Sue Rueb
