Sue’s May 2015 Letter

Dear Friends of B.R.A.I.N.,

It is great to be back with my B.R.A.I.N. friends after being away in Israel for 2 weeks this past month.  Sue_newsletterMy husband, Jerry and I are privileged to lead a tour of 40 people every other year to the Holy Land. After landing in Tel Aviv, we toured the Galilee Region and went north to the Dan Nature Preserve and then began to head south to the Dead Sea stopping at the historical site of Masada.  Jerusalem was the highlight with so many Biblical sites to visit, and we were enriched by our Jewish guide, Ariel and of course, Jerry’s Biblical teachings as well. 13 Days seemed to fly by and soon we were back home in Southern California with memories of Israeli hospitality still in our minds. I was struck by the fact that Israel is a center point for our American Judeo/Christian values. So much of what took place there so long ago still affects our ideas and culture. So very interesting.

I’m happy because our Swamp Cooler was installed today in our back room. No more hot Tuesday nights with the threat of someone fainting always near. No more putting up 6 loud fans to help move some still, hot air. Thank you to all of our FBI family members who sold coffee last Christmas, giving us $3,000 to buy the cooler. Thanks to our Board member, John Fuqua and one of our constant supporters, Rick Salgado for installing the cooler which wasn’t an easy task.  Check out where it is so that we don’t take up valuable room for FBI.

Literacy Class Potluck

B.R.A.I.N. is nearing its 3rd Anniversary here in Cypress. It’s hard to believe that it has been three years since we opened B.R.A.I.N.’s doors. New survivors, therapists, programs, social activities and always our wonderful FBI meetings continue to instruct and inspire us all. Thank you for faithfully supporting our great organization. As I watch the Literacy Class with Julia, one of our Speech Pathologists, come through the door each carrying their contribution to their potluck, it is a joy to realize that B.R.A.I.N. has created an atmosphere that fosters friendship, camaraderie and acceptance.  When these values are held high, both physical and cognitive improvement are experienced.  Thanks, James, for the homemade enchiladas and cold slaw. Yum!

Be sure to keep a June calendar close by to help you remember the important dates such as June 30th, which is our last FBI meeting for the season.
