Sue’s Letter 2nd Quarter 2016

These past three months have been full of action here at B.R.A.I.N. Our Think Tank Gala was a smashing success because of so many volunteers, survivors and donors who spread the word about the event. We packed the Sycamore Center in Long Beach and our hearts were moved with emotion as we had the vision of B.R.A.I.N. unfold before our eyes. Our newly formed Choir was a highlight and helped the audience to participate in a rousing rendition of “Sweet Caroline” with the choir. Stories of some of our survivors were watched on the big screen as well as heard first hand. We were so proud of our B.R.A.I.N. family that night. We successfully brought in enough funds for scholarships until the end of the year.
June was a fun month as we were getting ready for the summer activities and we had our annual potluck for our last FBI meeting for the season. It is always a mix of sadness and joy to experience our last FBI meeting in June. Funny how the summer flies by with extra activities to attend and before we know it…

…it will be September once again.

Though F.B.I. takes a rest, other activities and therapies continue each day of the summer. I hear the sounds of Choir, speech classes, relaxing music for the Yoga Class, and conversation sprinkled with laughter. Daily there are new people calling the office and coming by to see what may be of interest to them. Tuesday, I met a new family who came from Coto de Caza for F.B.I. A brain cancer survivor who had a skateboard accident led them to our door. They got a private tour and information and will be back for sure in September. I’m hoping they come to the picnic on Saturday!

Thanks to Allison, Christina and their group of volunteers who have led the summer activities. We now look forward to our annual Picnic at Rush Park in Los Alamitos on Saturday, August 20th. It will be from 12-3pm. Bring your favorite dish to share.

Though our country is often divided on the direction our leaders are wanting to take us, I believe B.R.A.I.N. remains a place where we can meet, learn, laugh and solve challenges…together. Refreshing, really.

Thank you for your support,

Sue Rueb
