Sue’s June 2014 Letter

As we take a brief hiatus from FBI for July and August, I am struck by the depth of relationships that have been forged this year each Tuesday. All of the hugging, kissing and tears at the potluck because it was the last FBI until September made me think I was back in college saying “Goodbye” to all of my friends, often never to see them again. I was touched by the feelings of care, laughter, encouragement and appreciation that were expressed on June 24th. We shared food, fun, and fellowship that engaged even newly attending individuals.

FBI truly is a family and community that provide an atmosphere for everyone to be accepted and helped to their next step of recovery. Thank you, Angela for all of the hours of preparation that goes into making each week a success! But, wait a minute…FBI is only one part of B.R.A.I.N. All of the therapy services are open all summer with the office hours exactly the same as usual. You will be greeted by a friendly voice and face as you come for your class or therapy.

We hope you all get your calendars filled with the various summer activities that Allison Sayerstad and Christina Dovico have planned for you. The B.R.A.I.N. Annual Picnic on August 9th will be here before you know it and this year, we are moving it to Rush Park in Rossmoor. Click here to view/print the Summer Schedule of Events!

I am looking forward to a fun trip to The Grand Canyon with Jerry over the 4th of July. Neither one of us has see it and we thought it was time to see and enjoy this great, natural exhibition of God’s creativity. Because I will be gone, I cannot participate in being present at the Long Beach VA 4th of July event. Thankfully, we will have a team of B.R.A.I.N. volunteers there to spread the word of our good work in Cypress and beyond. I encourage you all to go and support our Veterans on our country’s anniversary at the Long Beach VA this year, click here to view the flyer.

I am in negotiations hoping to bring a three star General out to speak next year for Think Tank 2015. We are getting closer in filling out all the paper work and deciding on a date and place. Each step is important and needs to be carefully executed. Thank you for your support as we put together a wonderful program that will honor our Veterans and Active Duty Military. We believe as we give help and assistance to our military, all brain injury survivors will benefit.

Two fundraising opportunities have come our way. Saturday, August 2nd marks our first Wellness Day, with all proceeds benefiting B.R.A.I.N. The day include live music, a summer brunch and a special speaker on nutrition along with two sessions of yoga. The cost will be only $35 for the entire event, if you are a B.R.A.I.N. Partner. Let’s all come out to support this event and help B.R.A.I.N. keep its doors wide open! Monday, September 29th is our first Golf Tournament Benefiting B.R.A.I.N. Click here for details and to register and tell all of your golfing friends to come and golf for an excellent cause. We are grateful to Nancy Rench and her Something More group who are graciously putting this on for us at The SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach.

Have a wonderful summer and come by the office for a massage, a reading class, a support group or a Saturday exercise time. B.R.A.I.N. is a busy, fun place to be this summer!

See you soon,

Sue Rueb

Founder/President B.R.A.I.N.
