Sue’s January 2015 Letter

Dear Friends of B.R.A.I.N.,

SPIRIT BRAIN2015 started out with excitement for B.R.A.I.N. We received an honor from the City of Cypress on January 21st at The State of the City Luncheon at the Cypress Community Center. We were selected as the first non-profit organization to receive the City of Cypress’ SPIRIT Business of the Year for 2014. I was thrilled to receive the lovely glass award from Mayor Rob Johnson, and you can view it as it is on display on our front counter at B.R.A.I.N. This award came because of everyone’s participation in making our organization known in this community. Thank you for your support. We are all honored.

We are putting our focus on our annual conference, Think Tank 2015 on March 28th at The Hilton Costa Mesa. We are stepping way out this year to help many who so deserve our support. Our Military will be our honored guests as we are giving ALL Veterans and Active/Former Military Personnel FREE admission for the day. This has been a dream of mine since B.R.A.I.N. began in 2008. While we are here safely at home managing our lives of joy and struggle, our soldiers are away from home defending our unalienable rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Many civilians and veterans share a common issue. It is brain injury, like TBI or even PTSD. How our Military personnel are treated when returning from battle is indicative of our values and vision for America. I am ashamed to even recall how our Vietnam Vets were treated as they came home. Back then, only a miracle brought them back. Most were killed and those who came back suffer even today. With more recent wars and newer body armor, our men and women are returning, but they are returning with head injuries because of less than adequate helmet protection. Our young men and women become the “walking dead” as they are bodily alive and yet suffering from brains that are injured, without notice. Brain Injury has been called the “Silent Signature Wound” of today’s wars. B.R.A.I.N. is here to address such injury. “On the Front Line of Brain Injury” is the theme of this year’s Think Tank. We believe that this year’s message of hope and healing for brain injury survivors will have a special impact on our nation’s heroes. Please sign up today to reserve your spot! You will be an encouragement to our nation’s finest.
