Spend Time With Friends
Dear Friends,

Like you, we are busily preparing for the holidays. We shop, wrap and deliver gifts to those we love, those we care for and those who live far away. We write holiday cards and we say things like “Let’s do lunch,” “Call and let’s get together,” and “It’s been too long”. I am guilty of writing those things in my annual Christmas card.

I am guilty because I can easily text someone a “thinking of you” which takes four seconds of my time rather than calling someone to say the same thing. I hesitate to call as I may get an answering machine or my four seconds of precious time may turn into 15+ minutes of catching up on the phone.

Bowling Fun With F.B.I.

Last December we held our first bowling night with our F.B.I. group and it was on the list again for this year. This time instead of 30 people in attendance, we had 60! Friends, families, children and one dog named Augie joined the fun at Cal Bowl in Lakewood. Gavin, our 13 year old friend bowled for the first time. Grant, Mike, & Brittany Boswith attended for a short time to meet and greet the people that have been praying for and supporting them. We had the students from Cal State Long Beach National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association there and they made Christmas ornaments for each survivor.

BRAIN Speaks At CSUFullerton

The National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) of California State University Fullerton invited B.R.A.I.N. to speak at their general meeting on Thursday December 8th. There were over 130 students from the Communicative Disorders program in attendance. The Founder, Sue, provided a history of B.R.A.I.N. Joan Jensen discussed the Brain Cells Program and Amanda Alexander reported on other volunteer activities. The response was enthusiastic; thirty people stepped up to the plate to become a volunteer! We are excited to have new and interested people join the BRAIN family.

Thanks to CSUF NSSLHA for having us.

B.R.A.I.N. Rocks Around The Christmas Tree

The holiday season is here and B.R.A.I.N. made sure to celebrate together in the best way possible! We enjoyed a lovely evening together for our Annual Christmas Party this month. All our friends came from near and far to gather for a night filled with laughter, yummy treats, and great company. The festive Boat Parade passed by as the night went on, illuminating our party. We want to thank our own Debbie Edwards and family for opening their beautiful home for a night we will truly cherish.

We couldn’t end 2011 without a Christmas celebration at our last ‘Friends of Brain Injury’ meeting of the year! Our F.B.I. friends sang silly Christmas carols, engaged in a rousing cookie decorating contest, and snacked on delicious treats. We had a special surprise visit from Santa’s elves who were disguised as our phenomenal B.R.A.I.N. volunteers. As the Naughty and Nice lists were read off, all our survivors received beautifully wrapped gifts to open on Christmas Day! The tears of joy and huge smiles warmed the room with the simple reminder of what this season is all about – our Savior’s endless love we share with each other each and every day.

Message From Our Founder

As 2011 fades into history, I am grateful for all of the efforts of so many who have helped B.R.A.I.N. move ahead in some big ways this past year.  We had a successful Brain Symposium that over 120 attendees enjoyed including brain-injured families and professionals.  Think Tank 2011 brought much forward movement to our organization.  Bennet Omalu M.D. became formally affiliated with B.R.A.I.N. giving us benefit from his unique and skilled research regarding sports’ injuries.
