Message from Our Founder

As 2011 fades into history, I am grateful for all of the efforts of so many who have helped B.R.A.I.N. move ahead in some big ways this past year.  We had a successful Brain Symposium that over 120 attendees enjoyed including brain-injured families and professionals. Think Tank 2011 brought much forward movement to our organization. Bennet Omalu M.D. became formally affiliated with B.R.A.I.N. giving us benefit from his unique and skilled research regarding sports’ injuries. Our annual picnic honoring our Veterans of War was both fun and encouraging as we watched many of our own members receive a patriotic quilt from Quilts of Valor. We had our first Home Health Seminar for families who were preparing to bring their loved ones home after their brain injury. It was an encouraging and helpful time as families gained confidence and meaningful information. Our Volunteer program grew by leaps and bounds this year.  Social outings, hospital and home visits, and speaking engagements were added to the volunteer list of activities.  Our Weekly FBI (Friends of Brain Injury) meetings have continued to grow and become an important part of the week for so many. We are steadily at over 70 individuals who attend each week. New friendships are being made and skills are being practiced in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Special speakers have inspired us to never give up and to keep focused on the positive!

This year, our B.R.A.I.N. family laid to rest our dear Nancy Martin and Carol Boswith.  We continue to love and support Guy Martin and family as well as the Boswith Family. Thanks for all of your love and prayers for both families along with your skill in restoring sweet Grant Boswith.

I continue to enjoy telling everyone who will listen about our special organization. Recently, I was at the State of the County Luncheon at the Long Beach Convention Center where L.A. County Supervisor, Don Knabe, gave the address. With over 1500 in attendance, I was fortunate to be able to meet and tell Mr. Knabe about B.R.A.I.N. and he accepted a copy of Who’s Crazy Now? with interest and joy.  B.R.A.I.N. is gaining some wonderful traction in the community and I could not be more grateful to God and to all of you who read this newsletter and support us with your time, talent and treasure.  We have an exciting year to anticipate with many activities and we hope to be in our own space by next Christmas.

May God bless you and yours this beautiful Christmas Season.  May your Holiday Season be full of life, love and hope.

Love,
Sue
