   Robert Charles Autrey

Robert Charles Autrey, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9th, 2017, in Long Beach surrounded by family. Bob was born in Long Beach on January 16th, 1932 to Charles Franklin Autrey and Hannah Marie Boyland. He attended Wilson and Polytechnic High School from 1945 – 1949. His first job out of high school was with Pittsburgh Paint and Glass. During this time he purchased old cars, fixed them up, and resold them–and so began his journey to eventually opening his own dealership. In 1960, C Bob Autrey Motors opened on Long Beach Boulevard.

The next step in his journey was becoming a BMW Fiat Ford Cortina dealer in 1966. Less than a decade later in 1976, C. Bob Autrey Mazda opened its doors. Throughout his career, Bob was also a Subaru and Lamborghini dealer. His innovation, passion, and drive continued on, and in 1990, Bob opened his new BMW showroom in Signal Hill, and remained a BMW motorcycle dealer until his death.

Bob’s passion for life went far beyond the showroom: He was one of the founding investors of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach and original member of the Committee of 300. He loved traveling the world with his family, going on cross country motorcycle trips, and was a voracious reader and learner. He was also an avid golfer, snow skier and poker player. Most of all, Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Bob is survived by his wife of 24 years, Debbie Frey Autrey, 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A private family Interment Serivce will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, California.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Bob’s name to: CHP11-99 Foundation at, B.R.A.I.N. at, or Long Beach Museum of Art at
